Astrology calculation and interpretation methodology

Inputs and time handling

Charts use the date, local clock time, location, and applicable historical time-zone rule supplied by the user. We preserve explicit uncertainty when a birth time is approximate or unknown.

  • The Ascendant, Midheaven, house cusps, and planet-in-house statements depend strongly on birth time.
  • Historical daylight-saving and political time-zone changes can alter the converted instant.
  • A location label is not enough by itself; coordinates and the time-zone rule for that date matter.

Calculation layer

The AstroMaster engine calculates planetary positions, angles, houses, and aspects from the normalized instant and chart settings. Display preferences never rewrite the underlying stored birth data.

  • Natal, synastry, transit, progression, return, event, horary, and electional charts use their stated chart type and settings.
  • Aspect results depend on the enabled aspect set and orb policy.
  • House-system changes can move house cusps and planet-in-house labels without changing a planet's zodiac longitude.

Interpretation layer

Interpretations combine calculated chart facts with a stated astrological tradition and editorial framework. AI may help organize or draft language, but it does not replace calculation, source review, or the uncertainty rules shown to readers.

  • We distinguish a computed fact from an interpretive claim.
  • Personalized content should reference the user's actual chart rather than only a Sun sign.
  • Health, legal, financial, and safety decisions require qualified professional advice.

Reproducibility and limits

A user should be able to reproduce a chart by using the same input data and settings. Small display-rounding differences can occur, while a different time zone, house system, zodiac, or orb setting can create legitimate differences.

  • Unknown birth time: do not rely on angles or houses.
  • Approximate birth time: test a time range before interpreting fast-moving angles.
  • Rectification: treat the result as a hypothesis because it cannot independently prove the original birth time.
